WordPress Themes FAQ

1. How do I register?

Registration is simple and straight forward. To register:

  • Click "register"
  • Create a a username and fill in an e-mail address that you'd like your temporary password sent to.
  • Once you've been e-mailed your temporary password, you can login via 1) the link provided in the welcome e-mail or 2) by "logging in" here.
  • Once you've successfully logged in, update your password by clicking “Profile” on the top menu. Enter a new password twice (near the bottom of the “Profile” page), and then hit the “Update Profile” button.

Note: You can only upload themes designed by you. We screen all themes before publishing them. Do not upload themes for other designers, distributers/buyers of your themes, and most importantly, do not attempt to submit themes from banned users (or you will be banned as well).

2. How do I upload a theme?

Once you are a registered user (see question #1), login to the website and click on “Upload Theme” from the top menu. (it should already be selected, but just in case).

You must fill in all of the fields and attach your theme in a .zip (ZIP) file. We only accept .zip files. Make sure you choose the appropriate sub-categories for your theme as well. If you don't fill in all of the fields, then your theme will not be published.

If your theme:

  • validates (XHTML | CSS)
  • looks professional
  • is free of offensive content
  • is free of bugs

then your theme will be approved without hesitation. If you make a mistake when submitting a theme, you can log back in, click "Manage Your Unpublished Themes" and edit your theme. Once published, however, your theme title, description, tags, and excerpt information cannot be edited.

In addition, your CSS stylesheet must have the following information located at the very top of the file, before anything else:

/*
Theme Name:
Theme URI:
Description:
Author:
Author URI:
*/

Fill in these details above so that your theme will be viewable through our theme viewer and also so that people will be able to use the theme once is has been downloaded. Themes won't function without this information in the CSS file, so don't forget.

Some additional information about theme uploads:

  • Do not upload the same theme twice.
  • If you make a mistake before the theme is published, you can update your theme by going to the “Manage Your Unpublished Themes” inside the members section. DO NOT use the “Upload theme” feature to update a theme.
  • Duplicated themes will be removed.
  • You can't upload another person's theme in your name. If you're caught plagiarizing someone else's work, then you will be banned.
  • Only upload one version of your theme. If you have multiple versions and/or color schemes, then 1) host them at your own website or 2) include a WP options menu.
  • Include the original designer's attribution links in the footer of your themes. If you are found infringing copyrights, then your theme will be removed and you will be banned.
  • Include License/Terms and conditions information in the theme's stylesheet or be including a License document in the .zip (ZIP) file.

Note: As mentioned above, we screen all themes before they are published. If you break any of the above rules, then you will be caught and you will be banned. Follow the rules and we'll treat you like a king.

3. How do I update my theme?

If you'd like your published theme to be updated, then do the following:

  • Login to the website.
  • Click the "Upload Theme" tab in the top menu (in case it isn't already selected).
  • For "Theme Name (REQUIRED)" enter: UPDATE - THEME NAME, Version VERSION NUMBER; Fill in "THEME NAME" with the name of your theme, exactly as you submitted it to us before, and "VERSION NUMBER" with the new version of the theme.
  • Attach the .zip (ZIP) file that contains your updated theme and click "Upload".
  • If any information has changed, then fill in the necessary fields (Categories, Theme Description, etc.).
  • Click "Submit for Review"

Note: Updated themes are the only theme submissions that don't require all of the fields to be filled in.

4. Am I allowed to submit multiple themes?

Yes, you have the ability to upload an unlimited number of themes, as often as you'd like, as long as they are unique and designed by you.

5. Can I upload two themes, one which is widget-ready and one without widgets?

No. There is no need to make two versions of a theme: one that offers widgets and one that doesn't. If users do not want to use widgets, they can simply deactivate the widget plugin.

6. Where do I make complaints regarding spam, duplicate uploads, theme rip-offs, and all other issues?

Email us at wpmoderator[at]wordpress-themes[dot]chromaticsites.com. If your complaint is justified, then the necessary actions will be taken.

7. How do I avoid personal attacks made at me and against my themes?

Like all of the themes on this website, comments are moderated. However, unlike theme moderation, from time to time a nasty comment may slip by us. If this happens, then please notify us by sending an e-mail to: wpmoderator[at]wordpress-themes[dot]chromaticsites.com and we'll take the comment down immediately and possibly ban the troublemaker.
